When sales are flat-lining, it’s the answer.
When product is falling short, it’s the answer.
When goals aren’t being met, it’s the answer.
When innovation is lacking, it’s the answer.
When the board are complaining, it’s the answer.
When people aren’t performing, it’s still the answer.
A typical management reaction when the assumption is ‘it’s a people issue’ is to pull out the org chart and red-line the ‘problem’ people. This may be the right solution in some cases but if this process is being repeated time and time again, and the business is still not performing, then the ‘people problem’ isn’t what it seems.
Here lies the flaw in that thinking. It’s not ‘who’ these people are, it’s ‘how’ they are. More specifically, it’s how they feel about how they’re treated – how they’re managed, communicated with, motivated, rewarded, nurtured and, ultimately, valued. We’re talking about company culture and, importantly, whether it’s a positive or negative force.
If it’s a strongly positive one, we refer to this as a ‘culture of high performance’ and the difference it makes is massive. It is the springboard that enables organisations to achieve the nirvana of repeatable and therefore sustainable growth.
But the fix is neither quick nor easy.
However, we’ve built our business specifically to help solve this challenge.
We define a high-performance culture as having a strong sense of purpose, effective leadership, and open and transparent communication, where trust, accountability and ownership are central. These are just some of the elements that work together to create an environment where employees can thrive, and where the organisation can achieve sustainable success.
We work closely with senior leadership and their wider teams to identify the roadblocks to success. With a combination of coaching and team development tools and techniques, we help implement a people-centred organisational plan that builds a foundation of trust and ensures continuous improvement. This way we help businesses release the passion and potential of all their people – the key to transforming business performance.
And common sense will tell you that bringing out the best in people is simply good for the business.
